EXCLUSIVE: ORIGINAL JOE COOLEY TAPES REVEAL VASTLY DIFFERENT STYLE
The Irish Traditional Music Archive has released a never before seen video of influential accordion player Joe Cooley which shows us a very different style to the one we have become accustomed to.
The video shows Cooley playing a heavily ornamented and pulsing rhythmical style akin to Damien Mullane instead of his usual driving and dance inducing one.
It is thought that the original tapes were part of a cover up which involved Tony MacMahon dubbing over the original recording with his own playing and it is only now that the original tapes have been released to the public.
