NPU INTRODUCE NEW PIPER'S CHAIR: 'THE IRON DRONE'
Na Píobairí Uilleann officials have announced the introduction of a brand new piper's chair to be used in recitals showcasing uilleann pipers: The Iron Drone.
After using a standard wooden chair over the past few years, uilleann pipers all over Ireland said that a change was needed which prompted the NPU to consider proposals for a redesign before settling on the austentatious new model.
The Iron Drone, made entirely from parts of uilleann pipes, was unveiled to a rapturous response from pipers everywhere who said that the throne is the rightful place for uilleann pipers as they truly are the kings and queens of the traditional music world.
Local uilleann piper: "Finally we have a chair fit for a piper. These common chairs like stools or arm chairs just aren't appropriate for people of our stature. I for one cannot wait for the opportunity to try the throne myself."
Made by pipe maker Cillian O'Briain, the throne is made from sets of uilleann pipes which were left by the past greats such as Seamus Ennis, Willie Clancy, Tommy Reck and many more.
Sitting on The Iron Drone whilst playing the pipes is said to fill the player with an immense sense of self-importance, something which is said to be lacking in many pipers. Former Planxty member Liam Óg O'Flynn spoke of his delight to be the first to try the new chair.
"This is what I'm talking about. No other instrument deserves a chair of this magnitude. I'm surprised that it took this long to get though. Sure I have a whole dining room set like this!"
