CIARAN O'MAONAIGH CAST AS DONEGAL JEDI IN NEW STAR WARS

Donegal fiddler Ciaran O'Maonaigh has been cast as a Donegal Jedi in the next episode of Star Wars which is filming in Malin Head.

Following reports all week concerning the new Star Wars, officials announced Ciaran's involvement in the production and confirmed that he will be playing one of the Jedi from the planet 'Gweedore'.

O'Maonaigh has said he is ecstatic at the news and is excited to be the first man from Donegal to play a Jedi in the multi-million dollar production.

"Aye, I'll be playin' a Jedi! I can't wait! I know I'm not the first Irishman to play a Jedi after Liam Neeson but the first from Donegal! And sure that's all that matters!"

"I guess the director just liked my fiddle playing. He said it was 'out of this world' so it would be perfect for Star Wars! That's gonna be my special force power, the ability to play the fiddle just by using the power of my mind! Leaves me hands free for having' a wee pint! Hup!"

Ciaran is to follow a long line of Irish musicians and people involved in the music appearing in Star Wars with The Chieftains playing The Modal Nodes in the Cantina scene on Mos Eisley in the first film, Seamus Tansey playing Jabba the Hut and Labhras O'Murchu playing the evil Emperor Palpatine.

There have also been rumours that Alec Finn is in talks to play Chewbacca's father in the same film, 'Tunebacker'.
